A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” Angie

August 25th, 2020 Preparations are underway for the Town of Islip's second annual Islip Goes Purple event, signaling the start of September is Recovery Awareness month.

Volunteers hung flags throughout the town today, to mark International Overdose Awareness Day, August 31, and the town's month-long effort in September to enlighten residents about Opioid and Heroin addiction, recovery and support systems available for families and those suffering from addiction.

According to the CDC, there were 70,980 Opioid and Heroin overdose deaths in 2019, more than any year in history. Early local reporting indicates that Suffolk County, particularly Islip and Brookhaven Towns, has seen a significant increase in Opioid and Heroin use since the pandemic and quarantine began.

The Town of Islip will premiere a September is Recovery Awareness month kick-off video event on the Towns YouTube channel Monday, August 31 at 6 pm, and will feature 5 related television segments during the month of September to air on Altice Channel 18 and Verizon 1982.

Visit the Town of Islip website www.islipny.gov/purple and social media platforms throughout September for information on resources and links available.
