A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” Angie

September 10th, 2020 Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and members of the Town Board, are proud to announce that during its annual meeting last week, the New York State Economic Development Council presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to William Mannix, Director of the Town of Islip’s Office of Economic Development.

Mannix has served as Director of the Town of Islip’s Office of Economic Development since April 1993, when he was appointed by a new administration that vowed to make economic development a top priority for the town. During his career, he has been involved in more than 500 development projects involving the IDA, the New York State Empire Zones Program, and other local, state, and federal economic development initiatives. Together, these projects have led to the creation or retention of more than 50,000 jobs and have facilitated more than $2.2 billion in private investment for the town.

A Certified Economic Developer, Mannix has received many professional honors during his career, including the New York State Economic Developer of the Year and the Paul B. Townsend Spirit of Long Island Award. He is also a past chair and member of the board of the NYSEDC.

“Bill has been instrumental in the economic growth of the Town of Islip. He has been an asset to our Town, and to Suffolk County as a whole. His breadth of knowledge and experience in this arena will be missed. We wish him all the best in his retirement,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

“Bill has dedicated his career to the economic development of and quality of life in the Town of Islip. His talent for identifying and shepherding successful projects has been a tremendous asset for the town and its businesses. His leadership as a past board chair and executive committee member has positioned the NYSEDC for future successes. I am very happy to honor him and his work with the Lifetime Achievement Award,” Silva said.
