September 14th, 2020 – The memory of Sayville resident Robert Zane Jr. was honored by his family, the community and First Responders at a street renaming and dedication ceremony in the hamlet recently. Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and members of the Town Board visited with the Zane family.
The NYPD Transit officer died in 2009 from a 9-11 related illness, leaving behind his wife Tracy and their two children, son Robert III and daughter Abigail. The intersection of Versa Pl. and Lowell Rd. was renamed Robert A. Zane Jr. Way, honoring the officer and his legacy in the Sayville community.
Officer Zane’s 15 year-old son reached out to the Town of Islip and organized the renaming in his father’s memory.
