September 17th, 2020 – Town of Islip officials took another step toward ridding the Town of derelict properties with the demolition of a zombie home in Central Islip this week. The Islip Town Board authorized the razing of the abandoned East Cedar St. property during a March 2019 Town Board meeting, after Islip Fire Marshalls reported a sagging roof and overgrown vegetation which posed a danger to the neighborhood, and recommended the structure be torn down.
”Not only do these nuisance properties bring home values down, they are hazardous, and oftentimes attract illegal activity. The entire Islip Town Board is committed to ensuring that all residents in the Town of Islip enjoy a quality of life,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter. Supervisor Carpenter was joined by Councilman James O’Connor and Deputy Public Safety Commissioner, Anthony Prudenti. Panzer Demolition officials estimated the parcel will be cleared in three days. The property is currently owned by Suffolk County.
