October 9th, 2020 – In person ‘Get Fit with Nick’ exercise classes returned to the Town of Islip, offering senior citizens the opportunity to improve their health and well being. Classes that were once conducted indoors pre-pandemic are now being held outside, and enthusiastic senior citizens were ready. Dozens turned out wearing their face coverings, eager to lift their arms and legs, or twist and turn their bodies from a socially distanced chair, under the direction of certified fitness instructor Nick.
Town of Islip officials made the ever-popular ‘Get Fit with Nick’ segment available on the town’s government access television, Altice Channel 18 and Verizon Channel 1982, enabling seniors to continue their fitness regimen during quarantine from the comfort and safety of their home. More than 50 FREE ‘Get Fit with Nick’ CDs were made available through the Supervisor’s office for seniors interested in on-demand access.
“Staying active is essential to good health and we are delighted to bring fitness back to our senior residents,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “Our popular ‘Get Fit with Nick’ classes offer safe social interaction and fitness in one setting,” added the Supervisor.
Classes are offered weekdays at various senior centers, weather permitting.
