October 6th, 2020 – Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter is encouraging residents to download the recently launched COVID Alert NY App. The free to use app notifies users when they have been in close contact with other users who have downloaded and tested positive for COVID-19. The app also provides detailed information related to COVID spread and testing, as well as useful resources for how to keep yourself and others safe.
Created by the state Department of Health and developed in partnership with Google and Apple, the free app is available for download in the Google Play Store as well as the Apple App Store, for anyone 18 or older who lives or works in New York State. The app is safe and secure and does not track locations or movements, share personal information or identify users. Using Bluetooth proximity-enabled exposure notification technology, the app assigns anonymous keys to protect users’ identities and personal information.
“As we continue to make progress containing the spread of COVID-19, some zip codes are experiencing a rise in positive cases. We must look to all available tools that aid and assist in stopping the spread of COVID-19. The COVID Alert NY app is an innovative precautionary tool that will help keep our residents safe, up-to-date and informed. Like social distancing and mask wearing, this countermeasure is most effective when more people use it. I encourage all to take advantage of this free app, and leverage the power of their smartphones to help stop COVID spread. We’re in this together,” said Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
