A Message from the Supervisor

“Welcome to Islip, the 3rd largest town in New York State, but with an endearing small town feel. We are so proud of our town…our beaches, golf courses, marinas, parks, housing opportunities for all, businesses, industrial parks, healthcare and educational institutions including our own Islip MacArthur Airport that provides many job opportunities. I sincerely hope you find this website helpful.” Angie

Islip Town has a long and rich history, dating back to its founding in 1683, by William Nicoll. It is a seaside community, with deep roots in fishing, boating and farming, but is also home to Long Island’s original Gold Coast, where esteemed families such as the Roosevelts and Vanderbilts had luxurious summer estates, and Blue Point Oysters were made world famous.

The Historic Islip Trail Map has been established to help identify some of Islip’s most significant historical sites. This map indentifies more than 30 places of historical interest to the area, including Sagtikos Manor in Bay Shore; the Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great River; and the Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville. But there are so many more!

Click on any one of the photos in the gallery below, or on the Google Maps link, to find out where Islip Town’s historic places of interest are located. Information includes a brief historical summary and contact information for each historic site.

We encourage you to review this Historical Map and then take time out of your busy schedule to visit these significant and interesting places, that help to identify why and how Islip became the great Town that it is today! Check each individual listing for important information about accessibility, as all are not open to the public, but can still be viewed curbside.
